HBI (Hot Briquetted Iron)

Using briquettes in any industry has shown many advantages. So, production of this product is increasing in various industries, including the Steel industry, day by day.

Production of steel products via the Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) route has been increasing rapidly in recent years and in order to achieve the required quality, steel manufacturers could not depend totally on Pig Iron or scrap. So, it has led to greater demand for Ore Based Metallics such as Hot Biquetted Iron (HBI).

HBI is the compacted form of DRI (Direct Reduction Iron) developed during the past 25 years to decrease the risks in respect of the handling and shipping because it is indeed less reactive compared to DRI.

World exports of HBI were more than 6 million Metric Ton in 2017, according to IIMA data.

As a growing source of iron pellets, Iran has increased the export of HBI during the past recent years by exporting around 1.5 million Metric Ton in 2020 increasing from 600,000 Ton in 2017, according to Iranian sources.

The country is developing its facilities and capacities for DRI (Direct Reduced Iron) and HBI (Hot Briquetted Iron) production as this will extensively expand its production of steel.
