Due to high polymer content, Iranian Polymer Modified Bitumen (PMB) is viscous enough at application temperature to fill the cracks satisfactorily, and also is liquid enough to penetrate into all tiny holes of cracks protecting them from penetrating water.
With an increase in the amount of polymer in the bitumen, the softening point will rise.
The softening point itself is influential on the storage stability of polymer-modified bitumen. To measure the stability, the difference between the softening point of the top and the bottom section of a sample is measured.
If the difference is less than 2.2 °C, the polymer-modified bitumen is stable for storage.
The softening point of pure bitumen 60/70 is usually 45 to 54 degrees Celsius.
