Bentonite used in the foundry industry has a specific grade. Foundry bentonite supplied by Romak has high-quality from the best mines.

Foundry bentonite Description:

Foundry is the oldest technique developed by humans and green sand casting is the most common technique, especially for ferrous castings. Also, it is recommended for use in steel and other alloy castings.

Typical Physical Properties of Foundry bentonite:

Sr. No.Parameters
1Moisture Content (%)11 – 13%
2Free Swelling Value (2 mg / 100 ml)30 – 33 ml
3pH Value9 – 11
4MB Value (mg / gm of clay)390 min
5Green Compressive Strength (gm / cm2 )950 min
6Wet Tensile Strength (N / cm2)0.30 – 0.35
7Green compressive strength, Thermal700 – 750
8Wet Tensile strength, Thermal0.15 – 0.20
9Loss on Ignition (LOI)8 – 10%
10Durability (550 oC , 30 min)70% min

Advantages:

  • The high-purity material, less sand content as the fine powder.
  • Better shake out a property, low consumption.
  • Engineered GCS and WTS ensure initial low consumption and very less rejection.

Applications:

  • It is recommended to use all kinds of Greensand process and also for some alloy castings.

Note:

  • All the tests are carried out as per VDG Standard.

Advantage:

  • Bentonite extracts the drill cuttings from around the bit floats to the surface.
  • Bentonite seals the drill hole against seepage and prevents wall cavities and leakages.
  • cause to cool and lubricate the drill bit.
  • slurry form with leakages pumps through drill stem and out through drill bit.

 Applications:

  • Drilling mud (gel) is crucial in the extraction of drill cutting during the drilling processes.
  • the gel is a major component in the good drilling process.
  • Another conventional use of bentonite is a mud constituent for oil and water well drilling. Its roles are mainly to seal the borehole walls, remove drill cuttings, and lubricate the cutting head.
